Hi,

I am currently consulting for an online marketplace work agency (see http://www.freelancer.com, http://www.odesk.com, http://www.elance.com). These companies have noticed a proportionally high demand from employers within Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands and Australia. I am investigating why this could be.

Basically, within these marketplaces, a company can hire a freelancer (online only) for any period of time, and pay them competitively (which in this case means less than usual pay, as there is a lot of competition for these jobs). Employers from Countries like Sweden and Denmark have started to increasingly use these portals. Could anyone please tell me why this is?

In regards to Denmark have following theories:
- The Labor laws within these countries are relaxed and perhaps promote online employment?
- These employers going for freelancers in developing countries because the labor cost in their home country is too high.
- There is a lack of technical talent in these home countries (such as Web Development, Database Management etc.)
- These Employers are circumventing some kind of labor laws within their home countries?

It is important that we understand this issue properly. I welcome any comments/criticisms/discussions.

Thank you!
