Costs of living in Denmark
Those new to Denmark may find yourself surpized at how expensive life in Denmark can be. It can dampen the initial excitement of living here. Getting through the first year seems to be a financial landmark…you meet friends, neighbors and co-workers who share advice on how to make your kroner stretch as much as possible, and you learn to read a bit of Danish, which helps a lot. Hang in there. It will get better. Saving money gives you a sense of control and can even become fun!
Char McKay, a former expat in Denmark, had started this collection of reflections from fellow expats, once newcomers themselves, who understand what you are going through. Great thanks to Char for her wonderful motivation and initiative.
We have extended her collection with information from many other sources. It would be great if you would share your tips as well by either adding your comments to this document or by sending an email to contact (@) worktrotter.dk.
The hints collected here and many more are covered in the "Worktrotter's Guide to Denmark".
Benefit of the collective knowledge. You don't need to re-invent the wheel and go through our mistakes as well.
