taxes for an APS Startup
You won't be liable for annual corporate income tax until you show a profit in a fiscal year. And there is some opportunity to roll over a loss year into a profit year, but your accountant can tell you about that.
However, you will have to file quarterly VAT returns, and pay any VAT owed on that quarter (and, of course, if it is a negative VAT quarter, you would get money back).
The tax department does not care if you set up an ApS and do nothing with it... they do care if it runs with losses and little positive cash flow. So if your "startup" is getting little sales and little outside investment, yet is filing a negative VAT quarter every quarter, you will attract tax scrutiny.
But if you are doing a start up, I am sure you have good accounting and legal advice lined up, right? |

Moving to Denmark while having a company abroad
Hi,
I've been told that having a company abroad (within EU) is a enabler to get a permit to stay in Denmark. You have to prove the profitability of your company in terms of the income. The question is if someone heard about this, has experience in this and if the above statement is true, what are the exact requirements that are needed (amount in Kronen, turnover, ...)
I am a self-employed IT consultant (just me).
Cheers,
Guy |

Right ways to look for a job?
Hi,
Given the fact that we're now 2 years further, how would you (all of you) perceive the IT market today ? Since I'm still in the phase of evaluating to come over to DK, I have been reading a lot on the net lately and read that Denmark is mainly interested in programmers when it comes to IT. IT is still on the positive list as far as I know. But how does that translate in real life for IT people looking for a job ?
I have been following a couple of Danish companies in the CPH area and what strikes me is the average age (based on their professional background on sites like LinkedIn). I see a lot of young people amongst those being recruited. It would be nice to read your opinion about this.

minimum salary levels
It really depends on the field of the masters degree. For an engineer the minimum would be about 30k a month, before taxes obviously. If it's a degre in business, and one wishes to work in marketing, then the starting salary can be as low as 24 or 26k a month. These then again depend on the industry (some industries like pharmaceutical are known to pay higher salaries). |

taxes for an APS Startup
Hi everybody
I have the following question:
I have a startup company, for several reasons I'm going to register it as an APS but probably I won't have return in short time mainly because
I am busy with other stuff. What kind of taxes do I have to pay even in an idle period ?
Or I will pay taxes in the moment I start having some return ?
Please let me know.

Excellent guide
I received my copy 2 days ago and I have already found it to be an excellent resource. The information is very practical and helpful.
One question - the guide references a link that is no longer working
http://www.worktrotter.dk/work which would provide CV examples. Unfortunately the link isn't working. Has it been moved to another page?
Thanks,
Nancy |

Searching for Short-term rental
Hi there
I am in search of a room or small apartment to rent on a short-term basis (for March & April). If there are any worktrotters out there who rent out their space, please get in touch.
Thanks!

Freelancing in Denmark - for Foreign Employer
Thought I should write that actually, it looks like I've got it wrong on this one. It seems for the past year the rules have changed. The above post is correct for trading of goods, but from what I can understand, if you are providing a service as a freelancer to a business customer in another EU country, the VAT is liable in the country of the customer under "reverse charge", in other words, the customer pays the german rate of VAT on your invoices separately to the authorities, and pays you the amount without VAT. Details are on this page...
http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/taxation/vat/how_vat_works/vat_on_services/index_en.htm#supply_services
I understand that on your invoice, you need to add a statement saying that the customer is responsible for paying € XXX VAT in their own country, and it is then their responsibility to pay it. This is all highly confusing. I am not sure I understand it right myself so I am going to find out the answer from SKAT tomorrow. |

Freelancing in Denmark - for Foreign Employer
Hi Nicole.
In your case, if you are a totally independent freelancer, you don't need to charge any sales tax at all. This is because if you do business with another registered business outside of Denmark, but inside the EU (like Germany), you do not have to charge them Moms or any other sales tax, so long as you put both of your Moms/VAT numbers on your invoices, and add a zero for Moms. You must then also put the transaction on the EC sales list.
The concept behind it is that the tax is accounted for in the country of the buyer (in your case, Germany). In this way, the German company effectively charges themselves the German sales tax, and immediately claims it back, meaning zero!
Of course if you earn any money from a Danish company, you charge them 25% Danish tax (Moms).
As you can probably read from this, it took me a while to find all this out. The truth is, freelancing here is not super-easy, especially with regards to certain regulations, and trying to understand the danish documentation!
Good luck!
