Topic: Experience with www.living-cph.com ?

Hi Everyone,

We have just moved to copenhagen and have been looking for a place to live. Through boligportal we have found something which is administered by the seemingly new agency living CPH. Just wondering whether anyone knows about them, has experience with them, etc. ?

Tx a lot!

Topic: How to find an appartment to rent without paying in a website

It's tough because in my experience, a very large number of apartments are found through word of mouth and not even advertised. So I would say ask everyone you know if they can help or at least remember that you are looking - someone will probably know someone else who will know of an available apartment!

dba.dk is a good place to go otherwise, but I don't know any other free online resources. A lot of people say it's worth signing up for lists at particular apartment developments - this costs a bit, but the waiting list can be long. Rent might be cheaper though.

Topic: How to find an appartment to rent without paying in a website

Dear all,

I am looking for an appartment in CPH and it is kind of difficult to find adverts from individuals/private people.

Most of the websites I found you have to pay to see the contact detail of the owner unless is an old advert.

Where can I find adverts for rentals?
I am already aware of facebook and dba.dk

Thanks!

Ana

Can anyone recommend any english speaking HR networks in Copenhagen? I've been told that even though many international companies use English as their business language, I really need to know Danish to work in HR here. Is there any truth to this?
Thanks!

Topic: Green card VISA - Immigration

Dear Friends

I am Behin from India, I have a query about the GREEN CARD validity. My VISA in my hand right now is valid for 3 years (1 month has gone already). I am still in India looking for jobs in Denmark. Is there any deadline to enter the country as my VISA is sealed already and I am still in my home country.

If I am flying to Denmark right now with my GREEN CARD VISA and stay there for couple of weeks for job search and then can I fly back home if I dont find a job sooner in DK. Will there be any problems with my VISA in this case.

A good guidance and reply will help me plan my schedule in a best manner.

Regards
S.Behin.

Hi Behin, I strongly advise that you search for a job before you move. For your stay in DK you'll need to go through the immigration process, which can be lengthy (and therefore costly if you are in DK). You'll have better chances to get your residency permit if you have a job.

Medicin industry is strong around Copenhagen, but many companies are reducing their efforts in DK (due to tax, costs, skills) and therefore will also hire less. So, search intensly for a job before doing any other steps.

Best,
Dagmar

Topic: Green card visa (working in Denmark)

Hello Friends

My name is Behin from India currently working as a lecturer in a Pharmacy college. I have 2 years of Research experience from Uk and 2 years of teaching experience from India. I have the Green card VISA in my hand and I am in the next step to apply for a Dependant Visa for my wife.

Meanwhile I came across some forums where people have posted about severe job cuts in Denmark and the higher living cost, necessity to know Danish. I am worried now and have few questions. I do not speak Danish.

Is the mode of teaching in Universities English?
I am in Pharma Industry and there are plenty of industries in Denmark, what are my job prospects in Pharma field there?
Is it good to get a job offer from India and then shift to Denmark or should I search after flying to Denmark?

your valuable guidance and suggestions will be an eye opener for me.

Best Regards
S.Behin

I am sure many of you are watching the games. Would you like to find others to watch them in company? You can share here information about where to meet to view them together. There might be some events set up already where others can join in. Or you find a place where the games can be watched and make it known here.

Which game:
When:
Where to meet:
How to identify you (optional):
Other info (optional):

The meet-ups can be Denmark-wide and will give a great opportunity to get to know others.

Have fun!

Hi Keith,
thanks for pointing out this rumor. Only by knowing about them we can do something about them.

I checked with LLO. Here's their answer:

"Of course this is not true at all.

On the contrary, we have made an internal arrangement to see to that English cases are handled by English speaking advisors, e.g. I take on quite a few cases in English. Since I have many cases on moving out, I have taken - and will probably take - several cases for people living abroad (I have one today as an example), and this holds for other collegues as well.

By the way, the Tenants Tribunal, which makes the decision in most cases is obliged to handle cases in English if such a case is presented for them (one of my collegues who is British, made a point about investigating this on an earlier occasion)."

Could it be that this rumor is spread by those that don't want us to search for help? Just a thought...

Best,
Dagmar

Worktrotter is running a survey to get an insight on how open you perceive Danes towards foreigners living in Denmark.

Click here to take the survey.

Thanks for your participation. Ask your friends to participate as well. The more the better.

The results will be published here end June.

Thanks,

What can be better for the international community, than having two strong international networks in DK joining forces and such become a powerful tool with the ability to make foreign professionals and students more visible and more welcome in DK.

Check out details

Check the renting contracts carefully as they can have very strict conditions for when leaving the appartment. Often the walls need to be painted and the floor sanded by a professional company chosen by the landlord. Thus you don't have any influence on the costs and they can be up in the sky.

Housing firm "D..."

A warning to expats to avoid renting accommodation from "D..." which is providing accommodation near the Fisketorvet shopping mall. Expats who have moved out have been unable to get their security deposits back - the company just offers bogus excuses as to why the tenant's deposit money can't be refunded, leaving legal action (and huge legal bills) as the only recourse.

Thanks for posting my article, Dagmar.

I have since heard a rumour that LLO will take on landlord/tenant dispute cases, only if the tenant speaks flawless Danish. If you speak only English (or aren't in the country any more), you're apparently out of luck.

If anyone can confirm or deny this rumour, do let us know. Thanks, Brian Keith

May be a little late with my reply, but I've rented with Budget before. Good service, not too expensive. I am not sure, but you might be able to make a special arrangement to take it abroad. Everywhere I looked had fairly harsh mileage rules.

Topic: For those starting a business...

I'm finding it hard to get my head around Danish rules for freelancers and small businesses, so was happy when Københavns Erhvervscenter suggested their starter course in English on the 19th May.

I was surprised to be the first to sign up, it's free, so thought I'd alert other Worktrotters...

Any other tips/resources on starting a business here would also be welcome.;)
